I’m Maura Smale, and I’m an Assistant Professor and the Information Literacy Librarian at City Tech (that’s New York City College of Technology, CUNY). Find out more about me on my profile on the CUNY Academic Commons.

Library faculty often talk about information literacy, but sometimes faculty in other departments aren’t familiar with that term. Information literacy is the set of competencies needed to find, evaluate and use information appropriately and ethically. I think of it as research skills + critical thinking, something our students need both for college as well as their careers and lives beyond.
